Why microfibre, and why it matters more than you think

The useful question is not how absorbent a towel is. It is whether it is ready to use again tomorrow.

Most towel marketing is about absorbency. It is the wrong thing to optimise for, because almost every towel absorbs enough. The thing that actually decides whether you like a towel is what happens afterwards.

The real cycle

A towel goes through the same loop over and over: use it, wash it, wait for it to dry, use it again. A cotton towel makes that loop slow. It holds water deep in the fibre, so it stays heavy, takes a long time on the line, and if you put it in a bag while it is still damp, you know exactly what it smells like by the evening.

Microfibre shortens the loop. It is lighter to begin with, and it releases water far faster than cotton does. Wash it, hang it up, and it is ready to go again — which is the whole point.

Who this actually helps

  • Anyone training more than twice a week, where the same towel has to be ready again quickly.
  • Anyone playing sport outdoors, where the towel gets used hard and packed away damp.
  • Anyone travelling, where a towel that packs small and dries fast is worth more than a plush one.

The trade we made

Microfibre feels different to thick cotton terry. It is thinner and lighter, and if what you want is a heavy, plush towel to wrap up in at home, cotton is the better answer. We built these for the gym bag, the court and the coast — where light, packable and quick-drying beats plush every time.

Wash it. It dries fast. It's ready to go again. That is the entire argument.
